Keys to Recovery (KTR)

Program Description:
Guidance Clinic of the Middle Keys (GCMK) provides substance abuse residential treatment for adult male felons through the Keys to Recovery (KTR) program. KTR is a minimum 6-month treatment program that serves as an alternative to going to jail. The program is designed to serve individuals with serious substance abuse problems, some who also have mental illness. The program meets the standards for the Florida Department of Correction's non-secure residential program requirements.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Under legal supervision of the Department of Corrections
  • Sentenced as an adult offender
  • Court ordered to successfully complete the program
  • History of substance abuse or dependency

  • 24/7 staff supervision
  • Supportive staff to assist with establishing community linkages
  • History and physical
  • Intensive treatment
  • Employment reentry
  • Group and individual counseling
  • Life skills counseling and education
  • HIV counseling and testing
  • Family support

Persons Most Able to Benefit from this Service:

  • Adult males who are involved in the criminal justice system (CJS) as a result of alcohol or drug use
  • Adult males who are involved in the CJS and have not been successful in treatment in a less restrictive environment such as outpatient therapy
  • Adult males who are involved in the CJS and have had a period of recovery, but have relapsed and are unable to get back on track in the community

Treatment Planning:

  • Treatment planning and related services to be provided occurs directly with the client
  • Services are tailored to the strengths, needs, abilities and preferences of the client
  • Services promote personal responsibility
  • Goals of treatment are not the sole responsibility of a single staff person or a lone consumer, but are the responsibility shared by all in an active partnership with the client
