Personal Growth Center

Program Description:
The Guidance Clinic of the Middle Keys (GCMK) operates a community integration program named the Personal Growth Center (PGC). The PGC provides psychosocial rehabilitation services in a consumer-run clubhouse environment and operates a Drop In Center at the same location. PGC clubhouse is a place where adults with serious psychiatric disabilities can go to fulfill the goals and aspirations of their lives in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Members participate in meaningful work vital to the clubhouse’s day to day existence. The Drop In Center offers laundry, shower and meals and operates a food pantry for homeless at -risk members.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • 18 years or older
  • Current diagnosis or history of mental illness
  • Wiliness to share ownership in the clubhouse

Persons Most Able to Benefit from this Program:

  • Individuals recently discharged from a crisis unit
  • Individuals desiring to learn employment skills and decision making skills
  • Individuals desiring to teach and learn from each other

Service Planning:

  • Services are tailored to the strengths, needs, abilities and preferences of the consumer
  • Services promote personal responsibility
  • Treatment planning and related services to be provided occurs directly with the consumer
  • Goals of services are not the sole responsibility of a single staff person or a lone consumer, but are the responsibility shared by all in an active partnership with the consumer
