School-Based Services
Program Description:
Guidance Clinic of the Middle Keys (GCMK) provides school based services through the services of Life Skill Counselors with offices at Stanley Switlick Elementary School and Marathon Middle/High School. The Life Skill counselor at Stanley Switlik provides services to students in grades Pre-K through Grade 6 during the traditional school year. The Life Skill counselor at Marathon Middle/High School provides services to students in grades 7-12 during the traditional school year. A Life Skill counselor also provides services for students during summer recreation camp and summer school. Teachers, guidance counselors, school resource officers, parents, and children themselves may refer for services.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Students enrolled in Marathon Middle/High School
- Students enrolled in Switlik Elementary School
Persons Most Able to Benefit from this Service:
- Children and youth who are at risk for developing substance abuse or mental health problems
Services:
- Individual and group counseling by Life Skill counselor that focus on early intervention, risk reduction, promotion of protective factors and reduction of problem behaviors at school
- Outreach and substance abuse education
- Prevention
- Too Good for Drugs - Science Based Program
- Hoop Drill & Life Skills - Using sports to teach social skills and change behaviors toward health alternative
- Summer Rec and Summer School Mentoring Program
- Intervention - Address impact of substance abuse on student lives, their families, and promotes healthy decision making
- Crisis counseling
